Are you Ready?
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) both registers and regulates all ADIs in the United Kingdom.
Before we go through the three stages of qualifying to become an ADI, you need to be sure that you are ready to start training. The basic criteria set down by the DSA is as follows:
- You need to have held a UK or European Union/European Economic Area unrestricted car driving licence for at least four years.
- You must not have been disqualified from driving at any time in the four years prior to entering the Register.
- You need to be a ‘fit and proper’ person, in the opinion of the DSA.
- If you have any existing motoring or non-motoring convictions, these will be taken into account when you are assessed for inclusion on the Register.
- You will need to have an enhanced level Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check. If you are not sure whether a conviction you have may affect your eligibility to become a driving instructor, contact the DSA for advice.
